Five Decades at the Edge of Sound
Leigh Landy is Emeritus Professor at De Montfort University, where he directed the Music, Technology and Innovation – Institute for Sonic Creativity (MTI²).
His professional life moves between creative practice and musicology. Many of his compositions employ samples and have been performed across the world, including pieces for video, dance and theatre. Notable collaborators have included the playwright Heiner Müller, the new media artist Michel Jaffrennou, and the composer-performer Jos Zwaanenburg. He served as composer in residence for the Dutch National Theatre and co-directs Idée Fixe, Experimental Sound and Movement Theatre with Evelyn Jamieson.
His scholarly work focuses on electroacoustic music studies, analysis, pedagogy and access for the listener, and has been published in over a hundred articles and a dozen books with Routledge, MIT Press, Cambridge University Press and others. He is founding editor of the journal Organised Sound, founding co-director of the Electroacoustic Music Studies Network (EMS), director of the ElectroAcoustic Resource Site projects (EARS, EARS 2) and is currently Visiting Professor at Ionian University (Corfu) and Ulster University (Derry/Londonderry).
